Training Tip:

Posted by: Lydia Burke.

We humans have such sophisticated brains when it comes to language -  have a listen to yourself talking in long sentences when you are explaining something.  Dogs brains are different -they beat us hands down in the sniffing department!  But they learn better if they can take their time, feel confident to offer a range of behaviours and are rewarded immediately they have done the right thing.  This doesn't need verbalising - eg. go on, you know what I'm asking, don't pretend you don't know, come on pooch, you are such a good dog, no, ah ah, yes, clever clever girl etc etc  And laughing when they have gone wrong is also confusing for the dog.

So as I say, try doing some training without words and see what happens....
